- Route planning: Professional ride leaders will arrange the daily highlights of the route, bringing participants the most beautiful mountain and sea views and tastiest local food.
- Suhua Highway:Because of opening of the Suhua Expressway, we have specially planned to ride on the “Suhua Highway” that is close to the Pacific Ocean and the Central Mountains. During the ride, you can overlook the Qingshui Duanya and experience the steepness of the Suhua Highway!

Pre-departure briefing

Day 1: Taipei-Hsinchu Nanliao, gentle slope variable speed teaching, and a leisurely trip along the capital’s waterfront
Bicycle Ride: Taipei → Greater Taipei Riverside Bike Trail → Shimen Reservoir → Hsinchu Nanliao, cycling 100km
At 7 am in the morning, gather at the “Bitan East Bank Parking Lot” in Xindian, New Taipei City (time and location tentative) to start the journey. Led by professional cycling guides, the route follows the serene bike paths along the Xindian River and Dahan River to reach Daxi Old Street. Around noon, lunch is planned at Shimen Reservoir, allowing for a brief rest. In the afternoon, the journey continues through Hsinchu, renowned for its windy reputation, via Route 118. In the evening, accommodation is arranged at a motel near Nanliao Fishing Harbor, with dinner featuring fresh seafood from the fishing harbor.

Day 2: Hsinchu Nanliao-Changhua Yuanlin: Windmills and seaside tree-lined bicycle path
Bicycle Ride: Hsinchu Nanliao, West Coast Highway → Wuci, National Highway No. 1 → Changhua → Yuanlin, cycling 125km.
Today’s ride will take us along the West Coast Highway, weaving between urban and rural landscapes. Early in the morning, we’ll traverse the beautiful 17-kilometer coastal bike path, passing by large wind turbines and visiting the “Guogang Archaeological Site,” discovered during the Japanese colonial era, to explore the academic value of shell mound remains. Next, we’ll visit the century-old Guantian Temple, thriving in the town of Baishatun, and pray for a safe journey around the island. Lunch will be enjoyed in the bicycle-centric city center of Dajia. Afterward, we’ll explore attractions such as the “Gaomei Wetlands” and “Zhui Fen Train Station,” continuing along National Highway No. 1 to reach the accommodation in the city center of Yuanlin, Changhua for the night.

Taking the Train: Changhua Yuanlin Station → (by train) → Tainan Shanhua Station
Bicycle Ride: Shanhua → Tainan City → Nanzih → Zuoying → Kaohsiung City, cycling 70km
Today, we will start by taking the train to Shanhua Station in Tainan. Then, we’ll ride along the coastal Route 17 through Tainan City towards Kaohsiung City. Amidst the hustle and bustle of traffic, you’ll experience the unique warmth of the Taiwanese people. Even while rushing to work on scooters, they won’t forget to cheer you on! In the evening, we’ll stay at a hotel near Love Pier, and after dinner, you can take a stroll along the pier at your leisure.

After crossing Kaohsiung, we will follow the Ping-Egret Highway to Checheng in Pingtung for accommodation. Along the way, we’ll visit Taiwan’s largest lagoon, “Dapeng Bay,” and Taiwan’s largest Earth God temple, “Checheng Fu’an Temple.” In the evening, as we ride on the Ping-Egret Highway, the setting sun will cast a warm glow on the sea, marking the end of today’s approximately 95-kilometer journey.

Day 5: Pingtung Checheng-Taitung Jhihben: Challenge the South Link Highway and and visit Chiben hot spring
Bicycle Ride: Checheng → Sizhong River → Mudan → Jhihben, cycling 110 km
Today marks the “mid-term exam” of our journey, challenging the Southern Cross-Island Highway. However, we have specifically chosen the most scenic Route 199 on the Hengchun Peninsula. Along this route, we’ll pass by beautiful landmarks such as the “Mudan Reservoir” and the “Crying Lake Water Grassland.” During the leisurely ride, we will unconsciously conquer the “Shouka Highest Point” in the formidable Southern Cross-Island Highway. We will then descend along the Southern Cross-Island Highway to Taitung Dawu, enjoying views of the Pacific Ocean along the coastal highway. Our destination for the night is the hot spring town of Jhihben in eastern Taiwan, completing today’s challenge of 110 kilometers.

Bicycle Ride: Jhihben → Taitung City → Luye → Guanshan → Chihshang → Yuli → Ruisui, cycling 115 km
Today, we will ride through the Hualien-Taitung Rift Valley, surrounded by the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range. Slowly cycling through the tranquil rural landscapes of the Rift Valley, you can enjoy the clean, fresh air, sunlight filtering through the tree shadows, changing seasonal views of rice fields, and the expansive blue sky. Riding on the 193 Route between the Coastal and Central Mountain Ranges, along the winding Xiuguluan River, you’ll have a panoramic view of the pastoral scenery of the Rift Valley and head towards the convergence of the Eurasian and Philippine plates to witness Taiwan’s unique geological landscape. In the evening, we’ll stay in a hot spring guesthouse in the Ruisui hot spring area and savor local cuisine.

Bicycle Ride: Ruisui → Guangfu → Fenglin → Shoufeng → Hualien City → Xincheng, cycling 95 kilometers
Early in the morning, we’ll ride on the 193 Route between the Coastal and Central Mountain Ranges, following the winding Xiuguluan River. Enjoy the pastoral scenery of the Rift Valley and head towards the convergence of the Eurasian and Philippine plates to witness Taiwan’s unique geological landscape. Next, at the Guangfu Sugar Factory, you’ll have the opportunity to taste the famous “Guangfu Sugar Factory Ice Treats.” Enjoy local specialty lunch in the city center of Fenglin. After lunch, we’ll continue along the Provincial Highway 9 and Provincial Highway 11B to Hualien City. We’ll then ride along the “Hualien Coastal Cycling Path” to the “Qixingtan Scenic Area,” crossing through Hualien City. This route passes through notable spots like the Forty-eight Highland and Environmental Protection Park, closely bordering Hualien Port, often cycling alongside cargo ships, creating a serene journey alongside these massive vessels.

Bicycle Ride: Challenge the old Suhua Highway — Xincheng → Chongde → Heping → Nanao → Dongao → Su’ao → Su’ao → Coastal Highway → Jiaoxi, cycling 115 km
Today is the final test of our island-wide journey. We will depart from Hualien Xincheng and ride along the Suhua Highway to stay overnight in Yilan Jiaoxi. With the opening of the “Suhua Highway Mountain Section Improvement Project,” large vehicles such as cars and gravel trucks have shifted to the “Suhua Improvement,” transforming the old Suhua Highway into a scenic route. Along the way, close to the Pacific Ocean and the Central Mountain Range, it boasts breathtaking mountain and sea views. It is a stunning and beautiful road that is definitely worth exploring on a bicycle. Tonight’s accommodation is in the famous hot spring area of Jiaoxi, Yilan, where a special celebration dinner will be arranged to commemorate the completion of the island-wide journey, featuring hot spring-flavored cuisine.

Today marks the final day of the journey. Early in the morning, we will travel along the Coastal Highway towards Taipei. We will visit the “Fulong Old Caoling Tunnel Bike Path,” which passes through the easternmost point of Taiwan, “Sandiaojiao” and leads to Fulong. At noon, we will enjoy a delicious “Fulong Bento” in Fulong. After lunch, we will continue along the popular cycling route in northern Taiwan, the “Route 106,” entering the bustling city center of Taipei. The efforts of the past nine days will culminate today as we personally pedal, exploring the land of Taiwan on two wheels, completing this nearly 900-kilometer round-the-island journey.
